General Nutrition

General Nutrition Information

General nutrition is the taking in of food (or other nourishments such as vitamins, etc.) and nourishing your body. You will need general nutrition to maintain your life and have good health. There are three main steps:

1. Consuming the food or drink.

2. The breaking up of the food and drinks into nutrients.

3. The nutrients are brought to different parts of the body by traveling in the bloodstream, where it is then used to 'fuel' the body parts.

There are four main food groups in which everyone should eat for health and general nutrition: grain (which includes bread and cereal, etc.), meat (which includes beef, pork, etc), fruits and vegetables (which includes celery, broccoli, apples, and oranges, etc.), and dairy products (which includes milk, cheese, fortified ice cream, etc.).

Now you know what there is to eat. But how much of it should you eat to maintain a healthy and general nutritional lifestyle? We will look at that right now.

* The grain group does not only include bread and cereal, but also pasta, rice, crackers, etc. You should consume 3 ounces per day. Note: Whole wheat bread is has more general nutrition than white bread.

* The fruit and vegetable group includes all fruits and vegetables. You should consume vary your vegetables, and eat all veggies (whether they're orange, green, yellow, etc.). You should also eat all kinds of fruits. Different fruits have different vitamins. Fruit juices are good once in a while unless home made and freshly squeezed.

* Different kinds of milk and dairy have different effects on different people (a baby should drink homo milk, whereas a child should be drinking 2%). The dairy products include cheese, milk, some ice cream, yoghurt, butter, etc. Milk is very nutritious and helps bone growth.

* Meats include pork, beef, etc. They should be grilled, baked or boiled. NOTE: Avoid barbeque because it can cause cancer.

* Junk food such as candy and pop drinks do not give much general nutrition, and should be avoided. Junk food should be consumed only maximum four times a week. Sweets such as candy do not only give cavities, but also are more fattening than organic foods.

General Nutrition sources should be balanced, e.g. junk food cannot be eaten for breakfast or for any meal, but as a snack along with some healthy and general nutritional foods such as carrots with dip. That combination is both nutritional, healthy, and plus, it tastes good. There can also be other combinations of snacks such as celery with dip, etc.

It is recommended that checkups be scheduled regularly (e.g. every six months), in order to make sure you are getting the right amount of general nutrition you need and that you are healthy. In addition to regular checkups at the doctor, regular dental checkups are also recommended, to make sure that not only your body, but your teeth are getting the right amount of general nutrition that they need.
