How To Get Vitamin C Antioxidant

In this article, we will discuss the vitamin C antioxidant. First, what is an oxidant? An oxidant is when oxygen molecules interact with and other substance. For example, a freshly cut apple turning brown is an example of an oxidant. A scratched spot on a car turning to rust is another example of an oxidant. Usually, oxidants are considered destructive. But sometimes, oxidants are purposely used (by surgeons), in some methods of cancer treatment, such as surgery.

What is an antioxidant? An antioxidant is a substance that helps protect against free radicals, which are an atom or molecule containing an unpaired electron. Free radicals can potentially injure cells and be responsible for many age-related diseases. Antioxidant vitamins inhibits the oxidant's destructive effects. Antioxidant vitamins besides vitamin C include vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E, and SOME vitamin B's.

Vitamin C antioxidant can be achieved by consuming vitamin C. But how do you get vitamin C? Here are the following ways:

1. Vitamin C supplement pills. These can be bought at almost any local drugstore. They are taken as instructed on label.

2. Fruits. Almost every fruit contains a vitamin of some sort (A, B, C, D, E, etc.). These fruits contain vitamin C antioxidant: acerola, apple, apricot, canned apricot, asian pear, avocado, banana, babaco, barbados cherry, bilberry, baobab, breadfruit, blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, camu camu, carambola, casimiroa, crabapple, cherimoya, custard apple, feijoa, fig, slip skinned grape, European grape, grapefruit, java plum, jujube, kei apple, kiwano, green kiwifruit, yellow kiwifruit, lemon juice, lime juice, longan, loquat, lychee, mango, marula, medlar, cantaloupe, honeydew, orange, opuntia cactus, papaya, purple passionfruit, peach, canned peach, pear, pineapple, plum, raspberry, redcurrant, rosehip, strawberry, mandarin tangerine, red tamarillo, yellow tamarillo, tomato, and watermelon. *Some items cannot be found in shops, but are possible to find, e.g. in your backyard, etc.

3. Vegetables. Every vegetable also contains one vitamin or another. This is a short list of vegetables containing vitamin C antioxidant: Guava, Red Bell Pepper, Boiled Broccoli, Green bell pepper, Tomato juice, Potato (baked with skin), Cabbage, and Raw Spinach.

Even if you eat the correct foods, the vitamin C antioxidant may be lost by the way you cook your food. Here are some ways to prevent that:

1. Leave potatoes in their skins while cooking. This keeps all the vitamins from the potato inside the potato skin. *Wash all dirt off potato before cooking.

2. Refrigerate juice, and they can only be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.

3. Store cut or raw foods in air-tight containers in the refrigerator. Soaking or storing cut or raw foods in water will result in the dissolving of vitamin C antioxidant.

A lot of experts say that vitamin C antioxidant is the most effective antioxidant. Vitamin C does not only act as an antioxidant, but can cure, prevent, or slow down the following: Coronary Heart Disease, Stroke, Cancer, Cataracts, and Lead Toxity. Unfortunately, we, humans, do not have the ability to produce vitamin C antioxidant by ourselves, therefore we must do so by our diet. Eat good, and be healthy!
